| Monkeybiz 2000 Monkeybiz founded. 2001 "World of Interiors" magazine. Appeared on Spanish television documentary. 2002 Won the first "Proudly South African" Award among five top companies in Cape Town, South Africa. Norwegian documentary produced. Monkeybiz exports works to United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Europe and Australia. Sell-out show at Sotheby's LOSA Exhibition in London, including pieces reproduced in Positively HIV. Appeared on CNN "Inside Europe" LOSA Exhibition. Participated in large South African exhibition at Liberty, London. Appeared in "Sawubona Magazine" World Summit Bumper Issue. Magazine was in the pouch of all South African Airways flights August, 2002. Exhibited at World Summit, Johannesburg. Commissioned to produce two murals for C.D. Wherehouse, Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa. 2002-03 Exhibition in Manor House of Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. "Seeking the eye of the needle," feature story with illustrations for Centre for Developmental Practice Annual Report, Cape Town, South Africa. 2003 Supplied Rhodes Scholars at Rhodes Trust Centenary-The Mandela Rhodes Foundation, with 1,000 unique beaded bags. Appeared in major article in "Leadership Magazine," May issue. Formed publishing company, Monkey Press, to promote and give credibility to craft in South Africa. "Positively HIV," Monkeybiz's first book, was launched in November 2003, together with a musical CD called "Statements," featuring the voices of our bead artists at CD Wherehouse, Cape Town. Work purchased for "Old Mutual Permanent Art Collection." Graphics from "Positively HIV" book used in Nedcor Annual Financial report. Opened a Wellness Clinic and formed an AIDS support group in Cape Town. Sold work to the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Francisco; Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles; Mingei International Museum, San Diego; Bass Museum of Art, Miami; University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque; The Chrysler Museum of Art Gift Shop, Norfolk, Virginia; The Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, California. Obtained funding from the United States to purchase a container which was converted into a "Centre" where our bead artists work in Khayelitsha. It was requested that we call it "The Boat" to remind the people where they came from. Two ladies representing Monkeybiz attended Monkeybiz Exhibition and concert in Oslo, Norway for World Aids Day, opening ceremonies by Crown Princess of Norway. Featured on front cover of 10th anniversary issue of "House and Leisure Magazine," South Africa. Appeared on Morning Live-SABC Television and Kuns Kafee on Mnet. Featured on front cover of the 'Big Issue" in Namibia. 2004 Will participate in 2004 Design Indaba and will be featured in "Design Indaba" magazine. |
