I chose scissors as a medium in my art after 9/11 when sharp items were suddenly were considered weapons at airports around the world. For me, scissors were a particularly interesting symbol of that time in that they could represent all the lives cut short, the pain of their families and how what was once a mundane household tool was now considered a threat.

With Travelers, I wanted to add the notion of protection represented by the umbrella to the danger of the scissors to stir conversation about the complex nature of our new focus on security. Can we truly be secure? What is the price of security? In my view, Travelers ultimately represents a false sense of protection.
